Donkor Tennis and Education Foundation Raising Funds to Bring Education, Athletics and Hope to Ghana

Donkor Tennis and Education Foundation (DTEF) Inc. is raising funds for building the first ever tennis facility in Ghana. The goal is to create opportunities for Ghana youth to receive an education and build a future. There are young girls and boys in Ghana with tremendous– yet untouched–athletic talent and with little hope of developing those skills or even getting a proper education.
The DTEF is providing a place for these children to develop their ability and to learn basic life skills such as self-respect, sportsmanship and discipline. Children will also have the opportunity to win scholarships which provide them the opportunity to study Math, English, Science, History, Geography and S.A.T testing in preparation for college.

Why the Children of Ghana Need Your Help

Around 40 % of Ghanaian youth 15 years and over and 25% of children under 15 are illiterate. Approximately 50% of the population lives below the poverty line of $1.25 a day. In spite of all these tough situations, Ghana has an untapped tennis talent that the DTEF intends to unveil. Our educational programme will be designed to help the children improve in the courses they are struggling with in their respective schools. We will be tutoring our athletes in passing their SAT’s and subsequently gaining college scholarships.
Raising funds for completing the project continues to be a challenge! DTEF needs a total of $100,000 for partial completion of the facility which will include:

• Five Tennis Courts (each costing $15,000 )
• Locker room / communal area.

We understand that $15,000 is a great deal of money. Our main expenditure for the building of the courts will be cement and sand. In addition to the building of the courts, we will also need nets and equipment for the facility. Any amount from $15.00 – $1000.00 would be greatly appreciated.

• Bag of cement $15 each
• Truck load of rocks $300
• Truck load of sand $350
• Nets $150 each.
• Courtside bench $50 each.
• Water dispenser $45 each.
• Fencing of one court $800.
• Court painting $1000 per court.
• Ball hoppers $35 each

Some of the funds are also being used to hold free clinics and tournaments in Ghana, touching over 400 children since the charity began.

Sponsors like Sonia Jones, who kindly agreed to build two tennis courts and a locker room, have already made tremendous contributions. This leaves us with three courts and an undercover sitting area for the kids. Other sponsors have contributed athletic gear and Tennis equipment, but more contributions will be needed to bring the complete vision to life and to transform the lives of hundreds of underprivileged youth.

Sponsors of the DTEF event will be able to advertise at the clinics, and some will have the option of having Tennis courts at the facility named after them or their company. There will be plenty of space for signage around the facility, as well as television and radio coverage of all our events. With Ghana being one of the most peaceful and fastest growing countries in Africa, advertising your business there can have great benefits to any company.

The DTEF Directors include tennis coaches, Ex Ghana Davis Cup players, and amateur tennis enthusiasts. DTEF is registered as a 501C3 charity and relies 100% on donations. Their goal is to take underprivileged youth from playing barefoot tennis in Ghana to being college graduates through scholarships to Davis Cup players.
