DTEF Press Release August 2011

DTEF Announces Its Biggest October Tennis Clinic Ever With Games, Food, and Giveaways!

August 17th 2011 – Today Donkor Tennis and Education Foundation (DTEF) CEO Isaac Donkor announced DTEF’s most ambitious event to date, scheduled for the upcoming fall tennis season. DTEF is staging its largest tennis clinic ever for underprivileged children in Accra, Ghana this October.

October Clinic to Follow on Successes of Previous Year

DTEF’s October clinic will build on the success of last year’s October 30th tennis clinic held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Ghana which drew around 70 children from all over the area. Isaac Donkor, along with a team of volunteer coaches, introduced the kids to the beauty of tennis with drills, shadow tennis, and other games to get them moving and swinging their rackets. Food and drink for all participants was provided courtesy of the Alisa Hotel. Every child at the 2010 October clinic went home a winner with a new racket, a t-shirt, tennis balls, or a combination of all three.
With this year’s scheduled October clinic, Isaac and the DTEF team are hoping to reach even more boys and girls to help them develop a love for learning and tennis. The Donkor Tennis and Education Foundation team is especially excited for the chance to give out all the awesome new rackets and tennis gear donated to them throughout the year. Isaac will be joined by Hall of Famer and NCAA four time all American tennis star Marcel Freeman, who was ranked top 50 ATP, and helped coached Chanda Rubin into the top 10 WTA. He will help conduct the clinics and offer his coaching expertise to the children of Ghana.

Transforming Children’s Lives through Tennis and Education

This October clinic is just one of many events that DTEF is using to reach underprivileged kids in Ghana and help change their lives through tennis and learning. A clinic held this past June was attended by over 100 young players, making it DTEF’s largest clinic to date.
This follows on the heels of previous events in Ghana aimed at recruiting young athletes as well as the recent start of construction on a Tennis and Education facility in Ghana consisting of five hard courts, which includes a stadium court complete with floodlights, and one clay court. The facility will also have offices, classrooms, changing rooms, and a gym.
