Charity Day at Harrison Ranch

The Donkor Foundation had it’s first official fundraising day on April 25th. After weeks of preparation, emails, phone calls, and hard work the day finally arrived!

We started off with a children’s tennis clinic bright and early at 9am. There was around 25 children of all ages who were eager to play, some had never even picked up a racket before. Isaac and Michelle took the children through a fun introduction to tennis which included ball skills, feeding drills, movements and games. After an hour of tennis they were ready for their well earned cookie and Gatorade which were donated by our local Publix Supermarket.

Next was the adult cardio tennis. We had 15 enthusiastic Mom’s and Dad’s ready to get on the court and have fun and at the same time learn some key skills. To our surprise there were a few who could play quite well and in no time Isaac and Michelle had them all playing doubles games and rotating groups on two courts. While sweating and getting in a great work out they all had fun!

During the clinics we had a bounce house for the kids along with sno-cones to cool them down. We had a specialty food truck that served a fresh and delicious brunch menu. There were many vendors who came out to sell their products and donate to the Foundation. Raffle tickets were on sale for many awesome donated prizes.

The raffle drawing was held with many eager buyers waiting to see if their number was called. One prize of $1500 worth of Disney accommodations was won by one of our students who earned his ticket by successfully hitting two targets during his class on the Wednesday before the event! Way to go Tyler!

After the raffle Isaac and Michelle played an exhibition match which was watched by all the children. It didn’t last long before the kids were back on the court trying to return one of Isaac’s serves…something the children LOVED!!!

To finish the day Isaac took the kids back on court for some games, the favorite game of all “jail” being the final one.
It was a hugely successful day over all and many people thanking us for welcoming their children to try tennis. We were very happy to have a bunch of new students signing up to take classes in the future.

The Donkor Foundation would like to thank everyone who came out to support us and the vendors for coming and making our day even more enjoyable.

Last but certainly not least we want to thank the people and companies who donated. Thank you to Sude Bounce for the bounce house the kids loved it! Metro Ice for the sno-cone machine. Thank you to Verizon, Publix, Yonex, Wilson and
Champs for our raffle prizes.

A Very Special Thanks to Nick Bollettieri for donating an hour tennis lesson and our board member Lisa O’Connor for her Disney timeshare donation and numerous gift cards.

We raised nearly $900 during the 4 hour event, so WELL DONE to everyone involved.
