The Donkor Foundation continues to work behind the scenes on the new tennis center in Ghana as well as building important relationships and partnerships with various organizations and schools. Our CEO, Isaac Donkor is currently in discussions with Dan O’Connell, the girls head coach at New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), to help the Foundation succeed in its goal of student tennis scholarships to American colleges. Dan is the same coach that spotted Isaac playing in the ITF circuit 25 years ago and ultimately got Isaac a scholarship to the exact same school!! Dan has agreed to award scholarships every 2 years to two Ghanian students with the help of the Foundation. True to his word, Dan has just awarded Herman Abban, who has come up through the foundations tournaments and clinics since we started, a full scholarship to NMMI starting in August 2014. We would like to congratulate Herman and cannot wait to see his progress in both his academics and tennis!

Early this month, Isaac and one of our board members, Charl Wolmarans, travelled to Greenwich, CT, to speak with the senior tennis team at Brunswick High School. Two of our junior advisory board members, Jack Jones and Matt Majjierh-Johnson, are part of the tennis team and warmly welcomed Isaac and Charl to their school. Isaac gave a great overview of the Foundation and its goals while Charl explained what they could do to forward the Foundation’s cause. The whole team was enthusiastic and readily agreed to help collect donations of rackets and clothing to send to Ghana. A hearty thank you to everyone involved in welcoming the Foundation. We can see a great opportunity for future partnerships with Brunswick HS!

Our tennis center in Ghana is coming along nicely. The two clay courts only need a top layer of sand to be completed and our two hard courts are already finished and ready for action. The Foundation recently purchased nets and posts for the remaining two courts which will be put up as soon as the sand is put down.

Collections of clothing, shoes and rackets to the Foundation has been fantastic this year. We have four big boxes at home to ship filled with tennis items to include about 40 rackets. We also have many items additional in Greenwich that were donated to ProForm Tennis Academy as well as other private donations. Wee want to thank the coaching staff and management at ProForm who have been great supporters for 4 years now.

The Foundation is always expanding its tennis clinics in the US to raise awareness and funds. One of our main goals is to get kids active as well as to learn and enjoy the game of tennis. We have recently begun two more classes at Harrison ranch, near our headquarters, and currently have around 15 children participating. Counted together with our other classes, we are currently introducing tennis to around 35 children in our local area and raising much needed funds for the foundation.

We have also recently appointed a manager that is going to oversee everything going on in Ghana, from the building of the tennis center to corporate sponsorship and development. We hope this will help us is getting the much needed support in Ghana to get our programs underway.

Thank you to all our supporters for your help and continued enthusiasm in our foundation.
